Simple Must have Health Gadgets for everyone

Simple Must have Health Gadgets for everyone

Everyone especially company executives must be careful not to let his/her health fall off the cliff. Health is wealth they say. It is important to ensure that you have some portable gadgets to enable  for keep track of your health and live in good health.

According to Dr. Fredirick. L. Mashili, MD, PhD, there are five such gadgets everyone especially executives, should have.

"1. A Blood Pressure (BP) machine

With high blood pressure (BP) affecting approximately 3 out of every 10 persons (WHO, 2012),  regular blood pressure monitoring is obviously a priority. High blood pressure is a common cause of stroke, eye and  kidney diseases as well as heart attacks. The majority of people with high BP have no warning signs and symptoms,  a reason why high BP is sometimes referred to as ‘’ a silent killer’’. Therefore regular BP measurement can help to  detect the problem.

People with high BP, whether or not on medication, need to monitor their BP on a regular basis. Thanks to  technological advances BP measurement has been made easy and accessible. With the availability of various brands of digital blood pressure machines, we are now able to self-monitor our own BP and receive timely alerts whenever things go wrong.

Talk to your doctor for recommendations regarding the type of BP machine to own, and learn how to keep a BP record and journal.

2. A weight scale

Weight can speak a million words about a person’s health. Most executives are subjected to situations that predispose them to a sedentary lifestyle which, together with other related factors, can trigger weight gain. Excessive weight has been linked to a number of diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems. Maintaining healthy weight requires proper monitoring.

Make it a habit to track your weight weekly or every two weeks by using a standard weight scale. Different brands are available, both digital and analogue. Even though a bathroom can be the most ideal place to keep a weight scale, modern weight scales are portable, which allow mobility. Make sure you choose the right brand, and learn how to use, calibrate and maintain it. To get the most benefit from the information that your weight scale gives you, it is also important to measure your height. Weight and height can be used to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI), a parameter that can tell a lot about your health.

3. A tape measure

A growing body of evidence clearly highlights the importance of measuring waist circumference in estimating visceral fat. Yes, weight gain is a problem, but the reason why it is a problem is due to the fact that weight gain reflects fat gain. It is the extra fat that we are worried about and not just weight as it is. We know that of the two kinds of fats that accumulate in our bodies, the kind that is found in our abdomens, particularly the kind found deep within the abdominal cavity, is the most dangerous culprit as far as diseases are concerned.

Using a tape measure to measure the waist circumference, one can estimate the amount of abdominal fat. This provides yet another important parameter to be monitored regularly in order to keep up with our health. Make sure you have a good brand tape measure for the purpose, and don’t forget to learn how to properly use it. Remember, for technical reasons, it is recommended to have someone else take your waist measurements.

4. A body fat analyzer

Trust me, this is the coolest gadget any executive could own. Depending on the brand, the instrument can tell much more than just your weight. You can estimate your total body fat, visceral fat, and muscle mass as well as water weight in less than a minute. Once you learn how to use it and learn the basics of how to interpret your results, you are ready to go. You might want to keep a journal of the parameters and simply send the values to your doctors for interpretation and discussions. Go for a simple brand, and discuss with your doctor before purchasing the gadget.

5. A motion sensor

Technology has done a lot for our health recently. Today, people can track not just the number of steps they make, but also the energy they expend, the intensity of the tasks they perform, their sleep patterns and much more.

Motion sensors (i.e. pedometers and accelerometers) can perform all these measurements. With less time for physical activity, executives need to wear motion sensors to track their activity levels. Physical inactivity is linked to a myriad of health problems including type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Certain types of motion sensors (accelerometers) can also track and record sleep quality."

9 reasons why you are not getting job interviews

These 9 reasons why you are not getting job interviews will help you overhaul your job application effort and start getting invitation for interviews. I know it can be frustrating when you do not get any job interview invitation after submitting your CV for many jobs. It feels like everyone hates you! The truth is they do not hate you, but you are doing something wrong. This is why I have put together this article to help you change this experience.  If you are not getting job interviews, then you are probably doing one of these:

1. You are using one CV for all applications

Lazy job seekers use one CV for all job applications. They are many job seekers committing this blunder. They seldom get interview invitation. One CV is not good for all job adverts even if the roles are similar. For each job advert, check the key words used by the employer and ensure that your CV contains at least four of those keywords. Look at other requirements, like language, travel needs and relocation. If these are required and you know you can afford them, include them specifically in your CV for that job. For each job application, adapt your CV to reflect the requirements.

2. Your CV Experience is irrelevant to the advertised job

Many just submit their CV to any job advertised, without considering the relevance of their CV experience to the advertised job. Someone with office assistance experience CV applying for an accountant job or teaching job is not likely to get an interview invite. Think about it. Before you submit your CV for a job, make sure it is relevant for the job to stand a chance of being invited for an interview. If your experiences are irrelevant for job and you need the job desperately, call the employment manager and explain your passion and experience and how it can be relevant for the job.

3. Work experiences does not show dates and duration

This is one of the reasons why your CV may end in the waste bin. Your previous experiences, which you choose to include in your CV must show the start and end date. A CV whose work experience section does not show dates and duration in the previous job roles will not appeal to the recruiter as a genuine CV. Everything will look fabricated and uncoordinated. Omitting the dates in your previous job role suggests that you are hiding some fact. Many make this mistake. Do not be one of them. Check your CV. If you want to get interview invitations, ensure that the start and end dates of your work experiences are included in your CV, starting from the most recent.

4. Too many wrong spellings, grammatical, punctuation and lexical errors

Before you submit your CV, do a spelling, punctuation and grammatical error check on it. It is a waste of time submitting a CV loaded with writing errors. Submitting a CV with writing error suggests that you are a careless person with poor writing skill. You will not get the invitation to interview that you are expecting. Do not be in a hurry; your CV is your first job for the employer. Do it well. Get a second eye to look at it.

5. Different font sizes/types in your CV

Always use one font type in your CV. Be consistent. If you are using Times New Roman, Arial or any font type of your choice, stick to it. When a CV has different font types and sizes, it is an indication that serious copy and paste work has being going on. It also shows that your are careless. The CV is not an original product of the person’s ability. It is a fabrication to meet the job description. You will hardly get a job interview.

6. You have non relevant job skills

Do not waste you time submitting your CV for a job that you do not have skills to demonstrate ability to do. Remember the employer does not know you. He/She will only assess you based on the content of your CV. If your CV shows experience related to administration, why submitting it for a core accountant role. A teaching CV can never be relevant for a nursing role. A mechanical engineering CV will not be relevant for a Civil Architect role. Skill development is a continuous effort required to prepare you for the job you want. If you want to switch job role to a completely different discipline, take time, plan, get some development courses in your new field before you start submitting CVs. Do not waste your time submitting CV for the Job your CV is not relevant for. You will not get an interview.

7. Incorrect or no contact details

This is the suicide rope. A CV without wrong or no phone numbers or email is on a suicide mission. It is dead on arrival. How can the employer get across contact you if your phone number or email is incorrect or missing? Before you submit your CV for any role, confirm the accuracy of the phone on the CV. Make sure that the number is active. If you lost your phone, retrieve it immediately. Check your email account regularly you are submitting CVs for job roles.

8. You are applying for closed jobs

Before you apply for a job, check for the closing date. Do not apply to an expired job. If the job does not have a closing date, it is probably a continuous running advert or a scam. Find the contact number in the advert and confirm from the recruiter that the job advert is still live. If you waste your time applying for an expired job, be sure you will not get an interview.

9. Spending short time in your previous jobs

If your CV shows that you spent only 3 – 6 months in your previous jobs over a 2-3 years period, then be sure that employers will be reluctant to invite you for an interview. Spending very short time in new job roles often give the impression that you are unstable and will not last in your job.

Before you sun off into spending your hard earned money spend some time and learn how to start a business. The reward of doing it right outweighs the hassles f learning to do it write.

  4. Legal

  5. Register the business

  6. Choose your partners

  7. Brand and advertise

  8. Buy relevant insurance

  9. Grow the business

  10. Build a team

Search out your ideas

Every new business starts with an idea. Maybe there's something you're really knowledgeable and passionate about, or perhaps you think you've found a way to fill a gap in the marketplace. Wherever your interests lie, it's almost guaranteed that there's a way to turn it into a business.

Once you've narrowed your list of ideas down to one or two, do a quick search for existing companies in your chosen industry. Learn what the current brand leaders are doing, and figure out how you can do it better. If you think your business can deliver something other companies don't (or deliver the same thing, but faster and cheaper), you've got a solid idea and are ready to create a business plan.

Another option is to open a franchise of an established company. The concept, brand following and business model are already in place; all you need is a good location and the means to fund your operation.

David Silverstein, a global business consultant and CEO of operational strategy consulting firm BMGI, cautioned would-be entrepreneurs against starting a business just for the sake of being a business owner: You need a viable business model, not just an idea, he said.

Develop your business plan

Now that you have your idea in place, you need to ask yourself a few important questions: What is the purpose of your business? Who are you selling to? What are your end goals? How will you finance your startup costs? All of these questions can be answered in a well-written business plan.

A business plan helps you figure out where your company is going, how it will overcome any potential difficulties and what you need to sustain it. A full guide to writing your plan can be found here.

Find Funding Sources

Starting any business has a price, so you need to determine how you're going to cover those costs. Do you have the means to fund your startup, or will you need to borrow money? If you are planning to make your new business your full-time job, it's wise to wait until you have at least some money put away for startup costs and for sustaining yourself in the beginning before you start making a profit.

While many entrepreneurs put their own money into their new companies, it's very possible that you'll need financial assistance. A commercial loan through a bank is a good starting point, although these are often difficult to secure. If you are unable to take out a bank loan, you can apply for a small business loan through the Small Business Administration (SBA) or an alternative lender. [See Related Story: Best Alternative Small Business Loans]

Startups requiring a lot more funding up front may want to consider an investor. Investors usually provide several million dollars or more to a fledgling company, with the expectation that the backers will have a hands-on role in running your business. Alternatively, you could launch an equity crowdfunding campaign to raise smaller amounts of money from multiple backers.

You can learn more about each of these capital sources and more in our guide to startup finance options.

Editor's Note: Looking for information on business loans? Fill in the questionnaire below, and you will be contacted by lenders ready to discuss your loan needs.

Legal support structure

Before you can register your company, you need to decide what kind of entity it is. Your business structure legally affects everything from how you file your taxes to your personal liability if something goes wrong.

If you own the business entirely by yourself and plan to be responsible for all debts and obligations, you can register for a sole proprietorship. Alternatively, a partnership, as its name implies, means that two or more people are held personally liable as business owners.

If you want to separate your personal liability from your company's liability, you may want to consider forming one of several different types of corporations. This makes a business a separate entity apart from its owners, and therefore, corporations can own property, assume liability, pay taxes, enter into contracts, sue and be sued like any other individual. One of the most common structures for small businesses, however, is the limited liability corporation (LLC). This hybrid structure has the legal protections of a corporation while allowing for the tax benefits of a partnership.

Ultimately, it is up to you to determine which type of entity is best for your current needs and future business goals. More details about the different business structures can be found here.

Register the Business

To become an officially recognized business entity, you must register with the government. Corporations will need an "articles of incorporation" document, which includes your business name, business purpose, corporate structure, stock details and other information about your company. Otherwise, you will just need to register your business name, which can be your legal name, a fictitious "Doing Business As" name (if you are the sole proprietor), or the name you've come up with for your company. You may also want to take steps to trademark your business name for extra legal protection.

After you register your business, the next step is obtaining an employer identification number (EIN) from the IRS. While this is not required for sole proprietorships with no employees, you may want to apply for one anyway to keep your personal and business taxes separate, or simply to save yourself the trouble later on if you decide to hire someone else. The IRS has provided a checklist to determine whether you will require an EIN to run your business. If you do need an EIN, you can register online for free.

Regardless of whether or not you need an EIN, you will need to file certain forms to fulfill your federal and state income tax obligations. The forms you need are determined by your business structure. A complete list of the forms each type of entity will need can be found on the SBA website. You can also find state-specific tax obligations there. Some businesses may also require federal or state licenses and permits in order to operate. You can use the SBA's database to search for licensing requirements by state and business type.

Select your technology

Just about every business today needs a solid set of tech tools to operate. Some will be more tech-heavy than others depending on the industry, but at the very least, you will likely need a powerful and reliable business laptop or smart device to help you keep things organized.

There are a lot of different factors to think about when you're looking for business technology. Since many key business functions — accounting, invoicing, point-of-sale software, presentations, etc. — can now be managed via mobile apps, you might be able to get away with just a smartphone or tablet. For more complex business functions, you'll want to consider a computer with strong security features, storage options and performance speed.

For those who want to operate their business on a smart device, think about whether you'll need a separate phone or tablet for your professional apps and data. For instance, you could route your calls through a third-party app on your existing phone so you don't need to give out your personal cell number. However, if you use the same apps for business and personal purposes, it might be easier to separate them so you don't accidentally share information with the wrong audience.

If you're thinking of purchasing a new laptop for your business, check out our guide to the best business laptops.

Brand yourself and advertise

A great startup idea won't do you any good if people don't know about it. Before you start selling your product or service, you need to build up your brand and get a following of people ready to jump when you open your literal or figurative doors for business.

A company website and social media profiles are practically essential for any small business in today's world. Create a logo that can help people easily identify your brand, and be consistent in using it across all of your platforms. Use social media to spread the word about your new company. You can even use social media as a promotional tool to offer coupons and discounts to followers once you launch. Be sure to also keep these digital assets up to date with relevant, interesting content about your business and industry.

Grow your business

Your launch and first sales are only the beginning of your task as an entrepreneur. In order to make a profit and stay afloat, you always need to be growing your business. It's going to take time and effort, but you'll get out of your business what you put into it.

Collaborating with more established brands in your industry is a great way to achieve growth. Reach out to other companies or even influential bloggers and ask for some promotion in exchange for a free product sample or service. Partner with a charity organization and volunteer some of your time or products to get your name out there. In this article, Business News Daily offers some suggestions for rapid growth.

Purchase an insurance policy

It might slip your mind as something you'll "get around to" eventually, but purchasing the right insurance for your business is an important step that should happen before you officially launch. Dealing with incidents like property damage, theft or even a customer lawsuit can be costly, and you need to be sure that you're properly protected.

Gyawu Mahama, social media and marketing manager at small business insurer Hiscox, said to choose insurance that's tailored to your specific business practices to ensure you're not paying for more coverage than you need.

"As a small business owner, you don't need a once-size-fits-all insurance plan," Mahama said. "Coverage doesn't have to cost a lot. General- and professional-liability insurance coverage for a sole proprietorship can be purchased for a few hundred dollars a year."

If your business will have employees, you will, at minimum, need to purchase workers' compensation and unemployment insurance. You may also need other types of coverage depending on your location and industry, but most small businesses are advised to purchase general liability (GL) insurance, or a business owner's policy. Mahama said GL covers three basic categories: property damage, bodily injury, and personal injury to yourself or a third party.

If your business provides a service, you may also want to consider professional liability insurance. It covers you if you do something wrong or neglect to do something you should have done while operating your business, Mahama said.

Mahama advised checking in with your insurance provider throughout the year to keep the provider updated on any changes happening in your business.

Learn more about the types of insurance policies your business might need here.

Choose your partners

Running a business can be overwhelming, and you're probably not going to be able to do it all on your own. That's where third-party vendors come in. Companies in every industry from HR to business phone systems exist to partner with you and help you run your business better.

When you're searching for B2B partners, you'll have to choose very carefully. These companies will have access to vital and potentially sensitive business data, so it's critical to find someone you can trust. In our guide to choosing business partners, our expert sources recommended asking potential vendors about their experience in your industry, their track record with existing clients, and what kind of growth they've helped other clients achieve.

Build your team

Unless you're planning to be your only employee, you're going to need to hire a great team to get your company off the ground. Joe Zawadzki, CEO and founder of MediaMath, said entrepreneurs need to give the "people" element of their businesses the same attention they give their products.

"Your product is built by people," Zawadski said. "Identifying your founding team, understanding what gaps exist, and [determining] how and when you will address them should be top priority. Figuring out how the team will work together ... is equally important. Defining roles and responsibility, division of labor, how to give feedback, or how to work together when not everyone is in the same room will save you a lot of headaches down the line."

5 ways to Prevent Mouth Odour

5 ways to Prevent Mouth Odour

Mouth odour medically known as Halitosis is an extremely embarrassing condition caused by a group of anaerobic, sulfur-producing bacteria that breeds beneath the surface of the tongue and often in the throat and tonsil area. These anaerobic bacteria assist in digestion by breaking down proteins into amino acids, and in the process they excrete waste as odorous and bad tasting compounds that cause bad breath.

CLEAN YOUR TONGUE ... Regularly

If you do not brush your tongue, be sure that you will develop mouth odour over time. Notice the white coating on your tongue; it becomes the host for many smelly bacteria. It is thus very important for you to remember to gently brush your tongue daily, including the back of your tongue, with your toothbrush. If your brush is too big to reach the back of your tongue, you can get a smaller brush or something called a ‘scrapper’ to help you reach back there and properly clean the surface of your tongue, removing bacteria, food debris and dead cells that you might not have been able to remove by only brushing your teeth.

STIMULATE YOUR SALIVARY FLOW

A dry mouth gives the perfect environment for the group of anaerobic bacteria that causes mouth odour. Avoiding a dry mouth by stimulating the flow of saliva in your mouth will help you get rid of mouth odour. This can be done by chewing gum, lozenges or mints that are sugar free. The ones that contain Xylitol, a non-sucrose sweeter, are best because they help you avoid cavities.

DRINK WATER REGULARLY

Drinking water regularly refreshes your mouth and stimulates salivation. It also helps you to wash down food particles off your mouth. You should have a bottle of water handy to drink from time to time throughout the day, to keep your mouth from getting dry. Remember that dry mouth is a perfect environment for anaerobic bacterial growth.

MAINTAIN GOOD DENTAL HYGIENE

This is a no brainer! At least twice a day, you should brush your teeth especially in the morning when you wake and at night before you sleep. This is rule number one to maintain good dental care. It is very important you don’t forget to brush your teeth at night because while you are sleeping little or no saliva is being produced, which creates the perfect environment for anaerobic bacteria to thrive throughout your eight hours of sleep. After eating, the food particle left in your mouth feed the anaerobic bacteria. Brushing your mouth before you sleep will help remove these food and plaque in your mouth. Use toothpastes that contain fluoride with soft brushes. You should also try to brush within the range of 1 – 2 minutes.  Alcohol free mouthwashes and dental flosses can also be used after meals, especially after meals that contain onion and garlic, dairy foods, meat, fish, refined and processed sugars, coffee and juices, and heavily processed foods that contain refined carbohydrates like cookies, cakes, sweets and ice cream which provide the ideal breeding environment for these bacteria.

EAT FIBROUS FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Eating fibrous fruits and vegetables like apples, bananas, oranges, and potatoes is a perfect way to help moisten the mouth and remove the bacteria, thus helping you get rid of mouth odour. Remember the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well in this case, we’ll modify it to, “An apple or orange a day keeps the bad breath away”.

2Face Idibia’s planned protest: We ‘ll arrest him, if… – Police

2Face Idibia’s planned protest: We ‘ll arrest him, if… – Police
According to VANGUARD

The popular Afro-Pop artiste, 2Face Idibia, had earlier in the week, called for the support of his fans and colleagues via his social media platforms to join his march against the crippling economic state of the nation. The protest is slated for February 6, 2017.

2face
In a video posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday, 2Face urged Nigerians to come out in a “peaceful and articulate manner” for the march, adding that “the need for urgent solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians has become very clear. Things are not getting better for the majority, we are still where we are, poor and desperate. I will no longer be quiet.”

The group coordinating the protest, @EiENigeria, wrote in its Twitter handle: “In view of the latest police update, how do we proceed with the march? Protest continues as planned. #IStandWiithNigeria.

Our leaders owe us their ears too and they must hear us. This march is about connecting the government with the citizens.”

We ‘ll arrest him, if… —Police

But the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the command will not let the protest hold in the metropolis. Owoseni said intelligence reports indicates that criminals might hijack the process to wreak havoc in Lagos.

He said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said.

According to him, “no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public who may wish to go about their lawful duties.

Owoseni had earlier said, the protest planners have not officially notified the police of their plan, stressing that the police encourage civil society groups to inform the force anytime they want to stage a protest because of their safety and that of others, as hoodlums seize such medium to perpetrate evil. The Police, however, threatened to arrest the singer if he dares hold the protest.

Fayose, Adegboruwa react

Reacting to Owoseni’s position, Governor Fayose reminded the commissioner that “the duty of the police to secure Nigerians is mandatory, not optional. Therefore, if there is any intelligence report suggesting the possibility of criminals hijacking the process, it is the duty of the police to provide security cover for the protesters.”

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government must be made to understand that leadership is about accountability and to be accountable, leaders must listen to public opinion either by civil or peaceful protest.”

Fayose continuing, said: “Court of Appeal affirmed in its judgment in Inspector General of Police Vs All Nigerians Peoples Party that protest or gathering do not require police permit or interference as obtainable in an advanced democracy.

“Most importantly, the protest is said to be for and about good governance. So who is afraid of the protest? Who does the police represent or is representing in this issue?” Justifying the protest, the governor said: “Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is now above N500 to $1. If Nigerians want to show their anger, no one should prevent them. Nepotism, extra judicial killings, disobedience to court order and human rights abuses must stop.

“The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid. If the APC-led Federal Government is now acting as if the protest is against it, it means the federal government has accepted to be guilty as charged. Like I said before, I support the protest.

Also, lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa called the bluff of the Police Commissioner, asking him to get a copy of the Nigerian constitution to guide his actions instead of threatening to cut short the wishes of the masses.

This is also as Niger Delta ex militants have pledged support to the protest, saying it is the best way to go. The ex militants vowed to heed the 2Face call for peaceful protest if it would call the attention of the government to the plight of Nigerians.

Adegboruwa said: “I have read reports credited to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police declaring that the rally slated for Lagos on Monday February 6, 2017, will not hold. I consider this to be an attempt to intimidate those who wish to partake in the rally, otherwise it cannot be a message for us veterans and indeed the deprived, oppressed and hungry people of Nigeria.

“For the information of the Police Commissioner, Nigeria is a democratic country governed strictly in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. Section 39 of the Constitution grants freedom of expression, including the right to be heard and to disseminate information and ideas. Section 40 grants the right to associate and gather together. Section 38 grants the right to freedom of movement and peaceful assembly. I believe that Mr Fatai Owoseni has a copy of the Constitution, to guide his actions and utterances on this matter, instead of threatening 2Baba and law abiding citizens, who are responsible for his salary.”

He reminded Owoseni that the issue of police permit for citizens to gather freely expired with the coming into force of the 1999 Constitution and that hinging on it to deny people right to gather was like going back to the military era of shutting up citizens from legitimate expressions.

“I therefore, urge the good people of Nigeria, especially those who reside in Lagos, to join us en mass at Ikeja, for the rally on February 6, 2017. We cannot be intimidated in our own country, by the same people who are paid to protect us.

“This is not a rally by miscreants or thugs as to warrant the fears being expressed by the police commissioner. The statutory duty of the police is to offer us protection on Monday and help to maintain orderliness, throughout the period of the rally.

So come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday, as scheduled, because it is illegal for the police to seek to ban a lawful assembly,” Adegboruwa added.

Ex-militants back protest

Meanwhile, a statement by the National P.R.O., Phase 2 ex-militants and chairman, Urhobo Ex-militant Leaders Forum, Mr H.M. Ebirie, stated that “we the Niger Delta ex-agitators are fully in support of the 2face Idibia-led nationwide mass protest against economic hardship and severe hunger in the country. The federal government seemed to have no immediate measures to cushion plights of the suffering masses and we are ready for the protest.

“The Federal Government must be awaken to rise up to its responsibilities of creating the conducive environment for economic growth and alleviation of severe hunger in the land through people-oriented policies and programmes,” they said.”

Similarly, Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative, YARPTI, has said that it will take part in the February 6, protest that is being organised by popular musician, 2Tuface’ Idibia.

In a statement by its Vice President, Dr Joy Tobin, the group said some members of the organisation will march with Nigerians in Lagos while others will be in Port Harcourt.

It said, “The right to join with fellow citizens in protest or peaceful assembly is critical to a functioning democracy,” warning the Nigerian Police not to interfere with a peaceful protest, adding that even the Police in U.S wouldn’t dare stop peaceful protesters.

“Within the space of a little more than a year, Nigeria’s story has turned full circle from an economy lauded as the largest on the continent with potentials to grow further to one enmeshed in its worst economic crisis in 25 years. Now, the economy has officially died and the government is cash-strapped with 27 states owing workers and pensioners backlog of wages.

“This is in addition to about two million workers and pensioners starving because their wages and benefits are not being paid on time while prices of goods in the market have gone to high heavens. All these are due to bad government policies.

“We can’t keep quite anymore.”
