Mistakes you should never make in your CV title

Your CV is the first and sometimes the only standard means of speaking good about yourself, years of studying and training. It is a serious opportunity, to persuade an employer to give you an opportunity.

The first part of your CV is the Title and Personal details section. The purpose of the Title and Personal details section of your CV is simply to tell the employer two things, namely: this is my name; and this is how to find me (address, email and phone).

This must be at the top section of the CV page. This is the first thing the employer will see. Unfortunately, many job seekers flaw their application by making mistakes at this important part of their CV.

The content of the Title and Personal details section is classified into four key areas of importance:

Major Content - Name, address, email, phone number(s)

Minor Content - Nationality, driving licence, immigration status

Optional – marital status, religion, titles

Never include - age, political affiliation, birth day, husband/children names, sexual orientation.

Buried name

Do not burry your name in the title. Your name must stand out in a font size that is clear. Typically I advice font size of at least 22, depending on the font type. Example below is a bad way to write the title of your CV.

Buried name mistake
Missing/incorrect contact phone number

Never forget to include your active phone number in your CV title section, as many do. It is the first line of contact to reach you, if the employer decides to invite you for an interview. Check to ensure that the phone number is complete. A slight mistake say 080XXXXXX56 instead of 080XXXXXX65 would mean that you are submitting CV for another person.

Missing Phone Number Mistake
If your phone gets missing, recover the number as soon as possible. If you change your phone number, you must change it in your CV. Do not submit your CVs with old inactive phone number. A CV without phone number

Inaccurate email address

Never make mistakes in your email address. The most common mistake in writing email address is incorrect spelling and missing the .com, .co.uk etc. Once the email is wrong be sure that the email will not receive any invitation for interviews.

Wrong email Mistake
With a and phone number are wrong, then your CV will not earn any interview despite how hard you try.

Unnecessary details

Do not include information that distract or distort the flow and strength of the data you have provided. Do not include details that discourage the empoyer from contacting you.

Unnecessary detail mistake
Information such as your immigration status (if you have no work permt yet), age, political affiliation or sexual orientation are not necessary. Keep them silent.

A Good example

A good example of the Title page for your CV is shown below. The name bold and clear. The contact detail being apt, and correct sets a professional image for your CV. The employer will be impressed to look into the rest of the CV.
