How to build a website or blog

Now you are interested in building your own website, you have made a good decision. I built my first website in 2009. I have gone ahead to build many other websites since then, including this one mysuccessangle.com. Here in Success Angle, I will share with you vital keys that will build your skills to enable you build your own website.

There are three basic easy steps you will take to build your website.

STEP ONE

Choose the platform you want your site to be built on. We recommend WordPress. This should not take more than 5 minutes. Fast and easy.

STEP TWO

Choose a domain name for your site so people can find it. Make it catchy and relevant. Read how to select a domain name. This should not take more than 5 minutes.

STEP THREE

Set up your website, choose a theme, customize the design and make it look awesome! This is long part about 50minutes at the first stab.

Now let us dive deeper.

STEP ONE: Choose website platform

This is the platform that you will build your website. First things first! You must choose what website platform to build your website on. There are many different content management systems (CMS) one can choose from. The challenge is choosing the right platform, which is a top priority. If you start building your site on a any CMS platform and later find out that it’s totally a wrong choice for you would wasted time.

There are three popular content management platforms you can choose for your site, namely: WordPress, Drupal or Joomla. Today more than 50% of websites are run on WordPress. About 18% of websites are run on Drupal, while 7% of websites are run on Joomla

As you can see, most people chose Wordpress. You can go with the popular opinion. For me, I always use WordPress. Hosting your website on Wordpress is free.

STEP TWO: Get a domain name for your website.

This is like the address to you site through which people will you in the internet. Your website needs a name and a home. As you already know, hosting your website on WordPress.com is free, you can also get a free WordPress domain name. The bad news is that the hosting Wordpress will give you for free will be really slow. Slow web hosting will impact your rankings on Google significantly. The free domain name Wordpress will give you is a sub-domain that will make you look unprofessional. It will end with wordpress.com. For example: Yourwebsitename.Wordpress.com

What is the better way to getting the domain name for your site and getting it up and running! You need to spend a little money on this. You should chose a domain name that is cost effective and represents your business. One of the cheapest and reliable hosting companies that you can get a domain name is 1 and 1. Blue Host is also another provider of reliable and cheap web hosting. At the end, your domain will look like this: www.YourWebsiteName.com

STEP THREE: Setup your wordPress website

The Last Step is now setting up your wordPress website, and working on it and making it represent the purpose you want it. Now you need to install WordPress. It is easy Sounds hard, but it is really easy! Easy as bread and butter!

Installing Wordpress has two options: 1-click installation or manual installation. One click install is easy, always recommended. Most web hosting platform will have a 1-click for Wordpress in their cPanel.

These are the steps you need to follow with the “1-click-installation” process. This will be the same or very similar on all of the other major web hosting companies websites.

  1. Log in to your own hosting account / control panel. The Hosting company would have sent you email containing you cPanel login details. Remember to change your password after login for the first time.

  2. Go to the control panel within your hosting account.

  3. Click on “1 Click Installs”

  4. Find the “WordPress” icon and click.

  5. Choose the domain where you want to install your website.

  6. Click the “Install Now” button and that’s basically it! You’ll get details of how to access your new WordPress website.

If your web hosting platform requires a manual hosting, you will need to follow the manual installation guide. You can get the easy guide in the article 'HOW TO INSTALL WORDPRESS', which I have prepared.

Now you have succeeded to purchase your own domain name and hosting. You’ve also installed WordPress on your server, set it up and now you’re ready to dive head-on into the internet world with your new website. It’s time to make this site of yours look whatever you want it to be. Be it professional / awesome / cool / fun or adventure, it now your game to play.

For step-by-step guide on setting up your website with Wordpress design I recommended that you read HOW DESIGN A WEBSITE with WORDPRESS.
